ACCESSIBLE ASTRONOMY WORKSHOPS |
You Can Do Astronomy LLC can bring accessible astronomy workshops to your conference or school!
We will show you how to make astronomy and earth science concepts accessible to students who are blind or visually impaired. These techniques are also great for sighted students with variety of learning styles!
"Noreen Grice's teacher workshop was one of the most effective and
educational in-service I have ever participated in. Although geared for
the visually impaired, all participants gained a deeper and thorough
understanding of otherwise difficult astronomical concepts. Through simple
and inexpensive modeling methods, group participatory activities, and
visual aids these concepts were clearly and easily understood. Noreen is
knowledgeable with the content she teaches and is very detailed oriented.
You really leave Noreen's workshop with renewed desire, inspiration, and
motivation to teach and begin sharing her activities. It was a pleasure
having Noreen present this kind of workshop."
--Jon W. Elvert, Director
Irene W. Pennington Planetarium, Louisiana Art & Science Museum
Baton Rouge, LA
"Noreen provided a truly amazing workshop for our teachers of the blind
and visually impaired in Connecticut . The workshop was completely hands-on
and provided practical application for the teachers to use with their
students. In all of the workshops I have hosted, I have never gotten such
rave evaluations as I did for hers. In addition, she was very well
organized and easy to plan with. I would absolutely love to work with her
again in the future."
-- Karyn Champion-Kamm, Education Services Specialist
State Education Resource Center
Middletown, CT
Participants will leave with clever strategies and hands-on materials that can be immediately used in the classroom.
Our one-day workshop covers these topics:
The Seasons
Phases of the Moon
Modeling the Solar System
Observing the Night Sky
Please inquire for other topics.

"Appreciated the ideas and activities shared by Noreen Grice; felt she was well informed, enthusiastic and creative"
"Noreen is an outstanding presenter and I received a wealth of ideas that I plan to share with students in the next two years."
"Great info and Activities"
"Hands on activities were very beneficial to the curriculum frame works and to students with disabilities."
"Incredible workshop; very motivational and eye opening; liked adapting the two dimensional info to tactile 3D models"
"Material and methods presented are practical and will enhance teaching students"
"Everything worked."
"Very well presented; provided lots of concrete hands on ideas and useful strategies that could be easily reproduced in a short amount of time."
"Handouts (tactile) were great."
"Well planned and implemented."
"Amazing take homes and handouts, especially for the low cost."
"Knowledgeable in areas of study as well as in how to effectively present information to adult learners."
"I thought this workshop was excellent. Noreen is very knowledgeable in
what she is doing and gives teachers practical and hands-on experiences to
help students successfully understand the universe, I would recommend her
workshop to anyone and would love to have her back."
"After the workshop I couldn't wait to get back to school and do the
activities Noreen taught us in the classroom. I have already done a few of
them and the kids loved them!"
"Everything was great. It has been a long time since I have been in a
workshop that kept my attention for such a long period of time. Presenter
was wonderful and made a subject that can be hard to understand very easy
to understand. Gave lots of suggestions and it was very obvious that she
not only put a lot of thought into it but cared about what she was
presenting. Could have listened to her for another day!"
"I am not much of a science aficionado, but I thoroughly enjoyed this
workshop. It gave me great ideas, with a hands on approach, of ways to
adapt science concepts for my students. As someone who is visually
impaired, I wish thse ideas had been part of my science education in
school!"
"I love the fact that we got to take home a bunch of materials we'll be
able to use with our students from the workshop."
"Best workshop I have been to in a very long time. Speaker was tremendous!"
